Fighting The Good Fight

Let’s fight the good fight of faith to keep pursuing Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Let’s fight to take our thoughts captive to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.

After Paul gives Timothy a list of things he is to stay away from when following Jesus, he urges Timothy to fight the good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:11-12). What does fighting the good fight of faith look like and how are we to do it? It appears God’s Word talks much about holding to truth and fleeing from things that do not hold to godliness. In 1 Timothy 6:11, Paul urges Timothy to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness (NASB).

I don’t know about you, but it is a fight to hold to these concepts. I constantly need the Lord to renew my mind and His help to keep my eyes on Him. Think about it, Paul uses the word “pursue”. What am I in pursuit of? Can I say I am in pursuit of righteousness or godliness? What does it look like to pursue perseverance? These are questions worth pondering.

When we take our thoughts captive, it’s a very active part. It’s not a meditation of simply letting our thoughts pass – it’s more like a violent capturing of our thoughts to make them obey Jesus, who is called the Truth and the Word. We make our thoughts obey the truth of God’s Word.

Let’s set our focus on Jesus. Let’s focus on who He is. Let’s keep fighting the good fight of faith.
